Strathclyde University Chamber Choir is affiliated to the Students' Association http://www.strathstudents.com/strathclydemusic/chamberchoir and is open to all students. If you're seriously interested in singing, love a musical challenge and can sight read music (at least a little bit!), Strathclyde University Chamber Choir just might be the choir for you! The Choir has expanded over the years, thanks to the growing popularity of "a cappella" singing, particularly renaissance and baroque music, and close harmony and new music. And, although a choir of Strathclyde University, we've a wonderful mix of people from all walks of life - Students, Alumni, Staff, and singers from outside the University, many of whom travel a long way for their weekly "choral fix"!
Apart from our concert and fundraising activities in and around Glasgow, we make annual cathedral visits (which have included Carlisle, Chester, Durham, Edinburgh and Ripon Cathedrals) to sing the major choral services in place of the regular Cathedral Choir, and have toured the Orkney Islands, Spain, Germany, Poland, Russia (Moscow) and the Middle East (including Jerusalem and Bethlehem). We've recorded for BBC Radio 3 and 4.
Individual vocal coaching is also offered at rehearsals which take place on Tuesdays, 7.30pm - 9.30pm .
This year's programme will include:
- a few charity fundraising events, including 21 October 2011, 'Help for Heroes' in Cathcart Old Parish Church, and an opportunity to sing in the wonderful City Chambers on 5 May 2012
- a visit to Chester Cathedral - one of the greatest English cathedrals - to sing the services
- an evening concert next April in Dunkeld Cathedral
- a return visit to St Peter's Church, Partick, for our annual West End Festival performance
We're always on the look-out for new talent, so if you've sung in a choir before, think we sound like a fun-loving crowd, and like the look of what we're planning, why not come along to our Open Session (11 October), or book yourself in for an audition simply by completing the details on the Enquiry Form soon as possible.
