Assessment is for Learning in English
How can formative assessment be successfully employed in English teaching?  This course draws on recent research to identify practical classroom strategies to maximise learning potential.

Scalextric4schools is a competition which is run by both Scalextric and PTC to encourage pupils to design and make their own Scalextric car.  An ideal project to meet the requirements for Technologies in CfE.

Introducing food education into the primary curriculum: teaching strategies, practical food preparation and new resources for delivering ACfE in Primary Schools
This one day will be designed to introduce participants to current research on children's eating habits and examine ways that the nutritional outcomes in ACfE can be delivered in the classroom.

Personal Study in English - Including (Int.1) Spoken
This course is about good practice in teaching the Personal Study.  It considers the alternative to written Personal Study, ideal for less academic pupils and for those who have a preference for talking over writing.

English Literature

Approaches to Poetry
The course will explore several approaches to teaching poetry with senior classes which will include the work of traditional poets such as W.B. Yeats and G.M. Hopkins as well as more recent poets such as Derek Walcott, Seamus Heaney and Carol Ann Duffy.

Shakespeare in the Cinema
We will explore several film versions of two plays, Othello and Hamlet.  Since Shakespeare is essentially about language and cinema is about visuals, there are real difficulties about an adaptation of a Shakespeare play - and of course real pleasures.

Shakespeare's Late Plays
In these late plyas there is certainly the presence of evil in society but the emphasis is on reconciliation and forgiveness.  We will examine The Winter's Tale and The Tempest in the light of this statement.

Managing Group and Gang Conflict with Young People
(the course will include direct input from two reformed gang members from the east end of Glasgow)
Strategies for teachers, youth workers and community organisations to enable young people to avoid the risk of becoming involved in gang violence and crime.

Making Your Pupil Council Effective
This course is aimed at link teachers and pupils who are currently involved in pupil councils in secondary schools.  It is specifically designed as a means of initiating open, democratic discussion between teachers and pupils and we hope that both teachers and pupils could attend this course.

Desk Top Publishing
Desk Top Publishing can be used as a vehicle to integrate literacy and graphic design: a practical introduction leading to production of PDF publication or website.

Web Creation without HTML
Using a web creation package which works with page layouts and images can be created without the need to understand HTML.  As part of the course, a website will be created and tools such as animation and forums will also be discussed.

Pro Engineer in Schools
An introduction course to Pro Engineer - a school based CAD package.  The course will take those who are new to three dimensional CAD right through from beginner to an ability level which will allow this package to be used within Graphic Communication.
