Torah
Torah, the Hebrew word for teaching, came to include instruction, law and law book. The term Torah is used of the first five books of the Jewish Scriptures which are traditionally attributed to Moses, but is also used for the whole Jewish law and for the scroll on which these laws are written. The law offers guidance on many aspects of Jewish life.
The Torah scrolls used in synagogues are written by hand and are held in the greatest respect. Many Jews will have a representation of the Torah scroll in their homes.
