Bar-Mitzvah
Hebrew 'son of the commandment', the term applied to a Jewish boy when he becomes a responsible adult for the purpose of Jewish religious life. On the shabbat following his thirteenth birthday he is called up in front of the congregation in the synagogue to read a passage from the Torah in Hebrew.
