SCILT promotes a multilingual society in which everyone recognises the value of languages and intercultural relationships and is able to use more than one language.
Why languages matter
We believe that with increased ability in languages, Scotland will:
- Be more successful in the global economy
- Build better relationships at home and abroad
- Put young Scots on a par with their international peers
Languages directly benefit our economy and have a profound effect both culturally and on our quality of life.
SCILT has developed resources to help parents, teachers and pupils understand better the importance of languages:
- Parentzone - web resources to support parents of pupils studying languages
- Making the case for languages - resources for teachers to help promote languages to pupils, parents and decision-makers
- Interview with Scottish actor, Atta Yakub - video resource for teachers to use in class
- SCILT resources - downloadable resources for teachers to use with parents and pupils to promote the value of languages
