Professional Development for Teachers

Professional Development for teachers represents a large part of the work of the Centre. Our work is underpinned by the belief that reflective professionals will draw on relevant national and international research to inform and review their practice and be inspired by sharing their own and their colleagues’ experiences. We are committed to facilitating professional exchange and development among languages professionals in all sectors and we offer a flexible approach to organising and delivering events.

What we do

We aim to deliver high quality staff development opportunities to languages teachers in all areas of Scotland, through outreach events, national events in major centres, virtual conferences or other distance learning using web-based technology. Past and future events involve:

  • regular updating on current developments in Scottish and International Education relevant to languages
  • providing information about relevant languages education research
  • exploring new ideas and approaches in classroom practice

From time to time, we also work collaboratively with teachers and others on individual action research projects of interest and relevance to local circumstances.

The Programme of CPD events for 2009-10 is now available.
