Research and Knowledge Exchange Services Annual Enterprise Report was launched in September 2010.
"The University of Strathclyde’s vision is bold and transformational: to become a leading international technological university.
Underpinning this vision is the University’s Agenda for Excellence which strives for excellence in research, teaching and knowledge exchange.
It is the translation of our excellent research and teaching, through effective knowledge exchange, into meaningful outputs which is a defining characteristic of Strathclyde. The University has a track record of commercialising research outputs and to date has created over 50 spin-out companies, addressing issues such as drug and explosive detection, clean energy and disease screening, and has generated over £45 million in royalty income from licenses in the past 20 years. Our entrepreneurial drive and ethos extends beyond the research base and the academic community. Innovation and enterprise are encouraged at all levels of the University and Strathclyde has worked hard to create an environment in which students and alumni are encouraged and supported to translate their learning, knowledge and ideas into viable businesses.
The University is modern and entrepreneurial in outlook and continually seeks to introduce novel initiatives which support Strathclyde entrepreneurs. The University’s Research & Knowledge Exchange Services Directorate has played a lead role in the design and delivery of a number of such initiatives, including Strathclyde Entrepreneurial Network (SEN) which underpins all of the activity outlined in this report.
Our ‘One Strathclyde’ approach is about working together to deliver the University’s mission and vision and given our strategic partnerships with key organisations such as Scottish Enterprise, the Scottish and UK Government and the European Union we are in a strong position to readily support our entrepreneurial students, alumni and academics."
