BRIGHTEST YOUNG BUSINESS WINNER
The Brightest YoungBusiness award went to Robbie Macdonald of RAW Design. Robbie is currentlystudying for a Master of Philosophy at the University. He is developing hisfirst product, Solid Sea Transfer which is an access system for offshore windturbines. He was recently chosen by the Carbon Trust to develop a vesselconcept which will work in conjunction with Solid Sea Transfer to provide amore versatile access solution for offshore turbines.

RISING STAR
Dr Jim Bonar (Institute of Photonics) was awarded the Rising Star award for his company mLED Ltd. mLED spun out of the University in 2010 and is set to become the global leader in high brightness miniature light emitting diode devices. The world-leading mini light engine technology has been exclusively licensed from Strathclyde and the company has established routes to a number of market opportunities in life sciences, data capture, medical devices and security applications.

BEST ACADEMIC COMMERCIALISATION PROJECT
Professor Terry Gourlay (Bioengineering) won this award for his fully integrated, miniaturised, portable ECMO, a life saving heart and lung bypass support system. ECMO is most widely known for the role it played in the swine-flu epidemic.

INTERPRIZE
Waste Not Want Not, an inter-disciplinary team of researchers, were selected as winners of the InterPrize competition by an audience of Strathclyde 100 members a week prior to the Awards Dinner for their innovate method of reducing the amount of food waste going to landfill and turning this into energy through anaerobic digestion.
