LECTURER IN INTERNET LAW

Abhilash’s principal area of research is internet law, with specific reference to censorship, children's rights and internet pornography. He has published widely on internet law and regulation and is a regular speaker at international conferences. Abhilash’s current research focuses on the issue of regulating internet pornography generally, and the protection of children in this context. This involves two related, but distinct, areas of study: 1/ the shift of focus of regulation from the publisher/distributor of content to the end user through the introduction of various possession offences for pornography, and 2/ the rights of children to be protected from exposure to internet pornography and other inappropriate content.  He is currently writing a research monograph titled ‘Regulation of Internet Pornography: Issues and Challenges’ (forthcoming, Routledge).

Abhilash has also researched other associated areas within internet law including online gambling regulation from a child and young people protection perspective, copyright on the internet, and child safety and privacy issues on social media sites.

Abhilash is the Co Managing Editor of the European Journal of Law and Technology (www.ejlt.org), one of the oldest open access law journals in Europe (formerly known as JILT). In addition, he is Deputy Editor of the International Review of Law, Computers and Technology, and also a member of the editorial team of the European Journal of Current Legal Issues (www.webjcli.org ). Abhilash is a member of the Executive Committee of the British and Irish Law, Education and Technology Association (www.bileta.ac.uk), external partner at the Centre for European Governance at the University of Exeter, and has formerly been a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Leeds.
