Personal statement

I joined The University in 1988 as a research assistant, became a lecturer in 1991 and obtained my PhD in 1992. I am currently a senior lecturer within the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering. My teaching expertise involves the fundamentals of chemical engineering, plastics engineering, separation processes and membrane technology.

The latter advanced course, in particular, translates into my main research activity which involves membrane fabrication and optimisation. I am also interested in developing new high performance green materials in the form of fibres, hollow fibres or films. Structures such as cellulose nano-fibre composites can be developed for strength. Alternatively, polymeric (including mixed matrix) hollow fibre membranes can be developed for novel separations such as ozone/oxygen or carbon capture. Rheology and spectroscopy are also main areas within my research.

Additionally, I hold the positions of Academic Selector (UG), Academic Year Coordinator (2nd year) and Student Staff Liaison Committee member within my Department where I endeavour to support the student population.
