Postgraduate Programme in Sustainable Engineering

This ground-breaking programme combines study in specialist, advanced engineering technologies underpinned with training in sustainability.

The course examines sustainable concepts through specialist and generic taught modules and industry-relevant projects.

With input from industry and a range of engineering departments, the course is a cross-discipline collaboration relevant to students seeking careers in industry and to industry staff seeking to further their professional development.

You will graduate with an MSc in your chosen theme having studied in an interdisciplinary environment and gained a thorough knowledge of modern sustainable engineering issues.

Specialist Pathways

Courses are available in:


Semester One

Having chosen your specialist pathway you will take the Faculty-wide module in sustainability, at least one other environmental-based module, along with other instructional modules from:

  • Design Management
  • Project Management
  • Information Management
  • Risk Management
  • Financial Engineering

You will also take a number of specialist modules relevant to your specialist pathway.

Semester Two

Group Work Project - You will apply your learning by working with students from other themes to produce sustainably focused solutions to industrial problems.

Individual Project Assignment - MSc students undertake an individual project which allows you to study a specific topic in depth and submit a dissertation.

Entry Requirements

First degree or other qualification equivalent to an Honours degree in a relevant engineering, technology or science discipline.

Entry may be possible with other qualifications provided there is evidence of relevant experience, and of the capacity for postgraduate study.

A limited number of competitive Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council studentships are available to UK and EU students.
