The Built Environment Futures (bEFutures) Centre for Doctoral Training examines and develops sustainable solutions to challenges arising between the built environment and urban communities.
The centre is a venture co-founded between the department of Architecture (who manage the centre), the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the Institute for Future Cities. It's supported by key organisations within the construction, energy, financial and creative industries.
Postgraduate student experience
The overall aim of the Centre is to provide a stimulating research environment to enrich the postgraduate student experience.
Projects undertaken will meet the urgent need to design and develop high quality, low carbon, economically sustainable urban environments. This will be done through socially-centred, innovative research collaborations associated with industry, local government and communities across the globe.
The centre offers specialist knowledge, multi-disciplinary expertise and the leadership skills necessary for researchers to lead future developments within multiple organisations and industries associated with the global built environment.
Current projects
bE Futures currently has a population of PhD students looking at global issues associated with:
- social equity
- entrepreneurship
- sensing & energy modelling
- building performance evaluation
- mass data evaluation & analysis
- low-carbon construction systems & materials
- renewable energy generation & distribution systems
Current PhD students come from a variety of backgrounds including architecture, engineering and economics.
Future research topics may involve collaborations with representative organisations from a number of UK industries, as well as academic inputs from many departments across the University of Strathclyde and various academic institutions worldwide.
