Our subjectsOcean engineering degrees

What is ocean engineering?

Ocean engineering is the study of structures and systems designed to use ocean resources. These include oil and gas, but also offshore renewable energy from wind, waves, and tidal currents.

These ocean engineering structures can be fixed on the sea bed, freely floating, or installed subsea.

Why study ocean engineering?

Ocean engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering field where you will be involved in the designing and building of structures that help advance marine science.

Margot Cocard at the helm of a yacht
The department of Naval Architecture, Ocean & Marine Engineering owns a sailing yacht, Catalina, and students are able to take a training course which allows us to charter the yacht. Thanks to this opportunity, I have been able to sail and discover Scotland on several occasions.
