Seminars and briefing sessions

Do you need help writing that cover letter?   Not sure what to expect at an assessment centre?
Don't worry.  The Careers Service is here to help.   

We run briefing sessions and seminars throughout the year.   In addition, we run Careers Development Week in January and June with a week-long programme of seminars ranging from effective job search to preparing your LinkedIn profile.

MyCareer

MyCareer is our online events and careers management system.   From here you can search for upcoming events, book events, book a CV check and  manage your bookings.

Use your DS login if you are a current student.  

For graduates, you may already have account from your student days.   If so, you will have had an email just before you graduated inviting you to upgrade to a graduate account.   If not, then you can create an account using the sign-up link in the graduate login box.

Quick queries

For simple or urgent queries, the Careers Service now offers bookable quick query appointments.

These appointments will be scheduled with the duty Careers Consultant and will last for a maximum of 15 minutes.  

Quick Queries may NOT be used for CV checking or for more in-depth discussions. If you are unsure about whether your enquiry is suitable for a Quick Query, please telephone us or ask at reception.

You may only book one Quick Query appointment in any 28 day period.

Before booking your Quick Query appointment,  please ensure that you have reviewed our FAQs.

 

Please note that as these appointments only last for a maximum of 15 minutes, late arrivals will not be seen.

Booked guidance appointments

If you want help with more complex matters such as understanding your options, making a good career choice, weighing up the pros and cons of several possibilities or selecting the right employers to target, you may arrange an appointment with a Careers Consultant. To help make the best type of appointment for you, our reception staff will ask a number of questions, such as 'Can you explain what you wish to discuss with the consultant?' Please be as specific as possible and understand that they are asking these questions to help you. They are not being nosey!

Appointments have to be made in advance. We will give you the earliest suitable appointment possible but please plan ahead. We make every effort to provide an appointment within 3 weeks but this will not always be possible at busy times of the year. If you cannot keep your appointment, please tell us so that someone else can use that appointment time.

It is important that you arrive on time for your appointment. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will not be seen by the consultant.

If you are unable to come into the Careers Service, it may be possible to arrange a telephone or Skype appointment, at the discretion of Careers Service staff.

To arrange an appointment, either call in to the Careers Service, or telephone 0141 548 4320.   We regret that we are unable to arrange appointments by email.

Practice interviews

Worried about that upcoming interview?   We have an interview simulator which you can use to practice with.   Login with your DS login and then you can practice your answers in the privacy of your own room.

We may also be able to offer you a practice interview with a Careers Consultant.   However, please be aware that it is not always possible to arrange a practice interview at short notice.

Our Resource Centre

Our Careers reception on Level 6 of Livingstone Tower, it's not just a waiting area.  We have a small library of careers information materials for you to use.   
Feel free to come along at any time to browse our employer leaflets or spend time working through one of our psychometric test books.

Our skilled Information Team are always available at reception to assist you with any queries you may have.


They will be happy to talk you through the array of resources on our websites, on MyCareer and in our Resource Centre, to ensure that you find what you are looking for.
