Staff updates21 December 2022

Dear colleagues,

As we look forward to the Christmas and New Year break at the end of this week, and in my final message of 2022, I would like to extend my warm and sincere thanks to each and every one of you for everything that you have done for the University over the past 12 months.

Earlier today, at our last meeting of the year, members of our Leadership Group joined me in expressing their gratitude for the efforts of our colleagues who put our Values into practice every day as they focus on achieving our mission as a leading international technological University that is socially progressive, and for the part everyone plays in delivering on the priorities in Vision 2025.

This past year – whilst challenging – has been another hugely successful and rewarding one for Strathclyde.

We have emerged from the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic to welcome students back onto campus to, once again, benefit from an in-person student experience that we are continually working to enhance.

Colleagues have also returned to on-campus working three days a week, as part of our agile/hybrid working approach that retains the benefits we realised over the last two years whilst ensuring we continue to provide the services our students and partners expect and deserve.

Our research income and output continues to grow, our partnership working with industry, government and academia continues to strengthen; and our contribution to our communities, city, country and the wider world continues to make a positive impact.

We have maintained our progress towards the targets set out in our Strategic Plan – Vision 2025 – and have commenced our consultation and planning on our next five-year plan to Strathclyde 2030, which will build on our successes to date.

I am both privileged and proud to lead our great University, to call myself a Strathclyder through-and-through, and to be part of this community whose dedication to our mission is always evident and inspiring.

Before you finish up this week, please do remember to switch off any non-essential equipment, ensure all windows are closed and turn down the heating within your workspaces. Doing so will help the University to achieve its sustainability goals.

Let me conclude by saying a most heartfelt thank you to all of you – for your ongoing commitment, contributions and enthusiasm in furthering our mission.

I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable extended Christmas and New Year break with your families, loved ones and friends and I look forward to seeing you in 2023 as we all make progress on our Strathclyde journey together.

Best wishes,
Jim
