CoronavirusStudent update: campus building operations

Dear students,

We recognise that this is an anxious time for everyone, given the developing situation regarding the COVID-19 outbreak. I want to assure you that the wellbeing of the Strathclyde community is our first priority.

The University will remain open and we are looking at how we safely optimise our service provision and support for students with the minimum number of staff on campus.

The majority of our staff are now working flexibly and remotely.  A number of key members of staff will be needed on campus to support essential services such as security, residences and within some laboratory areas.  We are currently assessing the minimum number and type of staff required to do this safely, in the context of ensuring the individual wellbeing of our staff members and students.

The following buildings will remain open:

  • Our Halls of Residence will continue to stay open to care for the needs of our students on campus
  • The Lord Todd will remain partially open to support our Residence staff
  • Our Curran Building will remain open to support key IT operations

The library will remain open until 5pm on 20 March, after which it will be closed until further notice.

Closing the library was a very difficult decision for the University to make but I believe that it is the only way we can properly protect our staff and students and reduce the risk of passing on any infection.

The University will continue to adhere to the latest government guidance as this fluid situation develops.

Thank you for your co-operation and support at this challenging time.

Best wishes,

Steven Wallace
