Dear Strathclyde student,
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our new and returning Strathclyde students as we look forward to the year ahead.
Since the sad news of Her Majesty The Queen’s death reached us on Thursday of last week, the UK has entered a period of National Mourning. As a University, we remember The Queen with fondness and respect, reflecting on the many ways she supported Strathclyde and recognised our collective work.
In the mourning period, up to the day of The Queen’s funeral on Monday 19 September, please be assured that the University will continue to operate normally. Our teaching and assessment will continue, and most planned events will proceed.
However, the University will be closed on Monday 19 September as a mark of respect and to allow those who wish to follow the momentous events of that day to do so. However, the Library will be open that day to give students a place on campus to study and to meet.
Your Departments and Schools will be in touch with you to tell you how the closure will affect your course that day.
If you have any concerns or problems during the period of mourning, please remember that our Disability & Wellbeing Service is on hand to offer you advice and support in managing your mental health and wellbeing. If you have any concerns, or worries, please do contact the team on disability-wellbeing@strath.ac.uk.
Finally, if you wish to express your condolences, Glasgow City Council has a public Book of Condolence available to sign in the City Chambers and the Royal Family has opened an online Book of Condolence as an alternative.
Once again, welcome to Strathclyde and I hope you enjoy Welcome Week.
Best wishes,
Jim
