Student updatesStart of term update, 1 September 2022

Dear Strathclyde student,

I hope this message finds you well and that you have been enjoying the summer.

You will already have heard directly from your Department or School about plans for the start of term, and as Principal and Vice-Chancellor, I would also like to extend the warmest of welcomes to you all on behalf of all the staff of the University as we embark on Academic Year 2022-23.

It is not long until the new Semester begins and we are very much looking forward to seeing you, with the entire Strathclyde community counting down the days until the start of term.

Everyone at the University has been working hard to plan for the resumption of campus-based teaching and assessment in the upcoming Semester and it will be a welcome return for us all.

The last few years have been challenging for everyone and this makes your presence on campus even more important. We are delighted that you will be able to benefit from in-person learning and teaching and enjoy the full campus experience as a Strathclyde student.

Rest assured, the entire Strathclyde community is here to support you throughout your academic career.

Our new Learning & Teaching building and Library provide a wealth of social, meeting and learning spaces, as well as catering outlets, in which to study, relax and socialise with friends and classmates.

Strathclyde Sport hosts a wide range of facilities, including a gym, swimming pool and a full timetable of classes and activities to support your physical and mental health and wellbeing – all in the heart of Glasgow city centre.

For new students joining us this year, our colleagues in Strath Union are planning a fun and informative Freshers’ Week – between 10-17 September – featuring lots of activities to welcome you, and help you settle in.

Our Disability & Wellbeing Service has a large team of advisers and counsellors available to offer you advice and support in managing your mental health and wellbeing. If you have any concerns, or worries, please do contact us on disability-wellbeing@strath.ac.uk.

In addition, we ask all students to provide details of a ‘wellbeing contact’, to enhance our capacity to respond to and support students who may need additional wellbeing support.

I know that some of you may be cautious about attending campus in the aftermath of the pandemic. I would like to reassure you that the health, safety and wellbeing of the entire Strathclyde community is our highest priority and we have planned our campus-based activities accordingly.

We recognise that the coronavirus continues to circulate and we will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate measures to protect our staff and students as required. Further information can be found on our COVID-19 information webpages.

Enjoy the remaining weeks of the summer and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Best wishes,
Jim
