CoronavirusStudent update: 12 April 2021

Dear Strathclyde student,

I hope this message finds you well and that you have enjoyed some time for rest and recreation over the Spring break. With teaching now concluding for the academic year, our attention turns to the formal assessment period, commencing on Monday 19 April.

As previously advised, the Semester 2 Formal Assessment Period will be conducted through alternative online assessments; your Department or School will have confirmed the details for your modules/programme of study directly. As you prepare for these formal assessments, I would like to draw your attention to the wealth of study skills support and guidance that is available online, including practical resources to help you organise your revision and enhance your performance during exams.

I would also like to draw your attention to the continuing supportive approach that the University has in place to ensure that no students are academically disadvantaged because of the COVID-19 pandemic or measures the University has put in place in response to UK and Scottish Government guidance.

To this end, the University Senate has recently approved updated procedures for the Academic Year 2020/21 for Boards of Examiners, incorporating updates to the University’s approach to ‘No Detriment’, for the Academic Year 2020/21. These updates take into account the changing circumstances throughout the whole of the academic year and make provision for additional discretion for our Boards of Examiners to apply additional supportive measures, where appropriate and in alignment with accreditation requirements of Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies.

More details about these measures are available on MyPlace.

To help us, help you, please ensure that any Personal Circumstances that apply to you are intimated in your Pegasus record.

We understand that undertaking online assessments in the ongoing circumstances is unusual and you may have queries about this. Please take time to review the Frequently Asked Questions on the Formal Assessment Period and, in particular, ensure you take care to review the guidance and videos available to ensure you meet our academic integrity standards. Remember that while many of your assessments are 'open book', it is essential that your submissions represent your own work. More guidance is available on our Study Skills: Online Support web page.

I would like to wish you every success for the forthcoming Formal Assessment Period. With the continuing cautious journey out of lockdown proceeding, I am sure you are all looking forward to the summer, with hope and optimism for the prospect of meeting with friends and family.

In the meantime, if you have any queries or need for support, please do not hesitate to contact us at: student.helpdesk@strath.ac.uk

Best wishes,

Jim
