CoronavirusStudent update 29 October 2021

Dear Strathclyde student,

The health, safety and wellbeing of our University community is of paramount importance and is at the heart of everything we do.

As you know a range of protection measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 remain in place throughout the University, including some we are all legally required to adhere to.

This includes the requirement that you wear a face covering in indoor spaces on campus, regardless of physical distance, unless you are exempt from doing so. This applies in classrooms, in labs, in the library, in informal student areas and study booths, and in communal areas where students mingle, meet or gather, e.g. entrances, corridors, seating areas, stairs and lifts.

We are aware that students are not always wearing a face covering while on campus – in particular when in the open and seating areas on levels 3 and 4 of the new Learning & Teaching Building and in the University library, even though signage is in place as a reminder to do so. Please also remember that where furniture has been laid out to support physical distancing, you should not move this, either in the social spaces or within learning and teaching rooms.

We understand that the measures being taken on University premises may differ from the new StrathUnion and from other public venues, however, it is essential that we all follow the guidance to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.

As a reminder, you can find all of our campus guidance, including guidance on face coverings, on physical distancing and on ventilation on our website. If you haven’t already done so, you can collect three free re-usable face coverings at venues across campus.

Please play your part in supporting the safety and wellbeing of our University community by wearing a face covering when on campus.

If you are wearing a face covering in all these settings, thank you for doing so. You are helping to suppress the virus, protect your fellow students and the wider community.

Best wishes,
Veena
