CoronavirusStrathclyde Doctoral Community update: 30 November 2020

Dear Strathclyde Doctoral Students,

As discussed at last week’s Meet Up, I am now getting in touch with more details about the on-campus, pre-Christmas Covid-testing which is about to be made available.

As you are aware, the city of Glasgow has been placed into Protection Level 4 for several weeks and will remain so until Friday 11 December 2020. At that time the Scottish Government will review each local authority area and decide if any changes are appropriate – changes of course are not guaranteed. I thought it would be helpful to share with you a summary of how Protection Level 4 impacts on our campus and the wider implications on other areas, including travel.

The good news is that the Government has once again recognised the importance of the work of universities and Strathclyde remains open to deliver restricted blended learning and our essential research activities.

NHS Test and Protect is at the heart of the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 recovery plans and I am delighted to tell you that bookings for Covid testing can now be made at the Strathclyde COVID-19 Test Centre.

If you intend to leave your current household and travel within the UK over the Christmas break, I strongly encourage you to book a COVID-19 test before you leave.

Taking the test will allow you to know that you are keeping your families, friends and home communities as safe as possible.

The NHS test is free and simple to access in the Barony Hall from Tuesday 1 December 2020 until 9 December 2020. Appointments are available from 9.30am until 7.30pm each day.

You will be asked to attend the Test Centre twice to ensure your result is accurate. Find out more and book your test here.

If you plan to travel internationally, please be aware that the tests on offer at the Barony may not be acceptable for the requirements of your destination country. Find out more about foreign travel.

Please remember to only book a test at the Barony Hall if you plan to change households over the winter break.

I would like to thank you once again for your support and co-operation in what has been an incredibly difficult year for our Doctoral Community.

I look forward to seeing you at this week’s Meet Up where myself and the team will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Take care,

Eleanor Shaw MA, PhD, FRSA
