CoronavirusStudent update: Semester 2

Semester 2

Semester 2 will commence online on 11 January with Development and Consolidation week. Teaching will commence on 18 January and will take place online for the vast majority of students.

Departments and Schools will contact students directly to confirm the plans for the commencement of on-campus teaching, which is intended to start from week commencing 8 February; this will be informed by the local protection levels that are in place at the time.

Planning your return to campus, with safety and confidence

Both the Scottish and UK governments are working closely with institutions to enable students to return to term-time accommodation over January and February. This will continue to be reviewed as the situation evolves.

Your Department or School will confirm the plans for your programme’s return to campus in the new year. Once you have this information, you should book a COVID-19 test to enable you to plan your return. Please take time to book your tests to align with your planned return dates.

In line with Scottish Government guidance, lateral-flow testing will be made available at the University, as before Christmas, and will enable you to plan your return to campus, if changing household. Please take time to book your tests at our COVID-19 Test Centre to align with your planned return dates.

This will help minimise the risk of transmission across the country and in the Strathclyde and local communities. It will also make it easier for everyone to get tested quickly when they do return.

If you changed household over the winter break, it is important that you minimise your social contact in the period before you return, take advantage of testing on your return to campus for study and in due course, for on-campus teaching.

Undergraduate students

For undergraduate students who are changing household over Christmas and who intend to return to campus up to and including the week beginning 8 February, you are strongly encouraged to book a test through the University’s COVID-19 Test Centre

Postgraduate taught students

For postgraduate taught students, your Department or School will be in touch with you to confirm arrangements for the commencement of blended learning through online and on-campus teaching. You may return to campus at any point, but if changing household we ask you to plan your return and book a test with the University’s COVID-19 Test Centre.

Postgraduate research students

For postgraduate research students, please liaise with your supervisor if wishing to make use of Department/School research facilities. If you are returning to study within the Library you may do so at any time within the published opening hours, but if changing household we ask you to plan your return and book a test with the University’s COVID-19 Test Centre.

Education students

For students on the BA Education and PGDE programmes please note that you will receive additional separate communication directly from the School of Education outlining testing arrangements for students who are on school placement in January and February.
