Industrial Team Projects

In this scheme, student teams work on a project provided by an industrial partner with whom they collaborate for an academic year.

Senior UG and PG students are grouped at the start of the academic year and work on a project from November to May. The topic is provided by a company, and they are run as "mini-consultancy" projects.

The companies we already work with often have design projects that they would like our students to work on in detail. These can include:

  • managerial issues that, due to their lack of time or resources they cannot do themselves
  • manufacturing lines that would benefit from review

Our students have expertise in product and engineering design (including sports engineering), manufacturing and production, and engineering management. Therefore, projects can fall in any of these themes, or as a combination of them (eg a design issue for a product in packaging or a sport-related product, or a project where students can look into strategic issues and/or planning).

Companies that have already worked with us include:

  • Rolls-Royce
  • Philips
  • Polaroid Eyewear
  • Invitrogen
  • Hovis
  • the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics
  • Clyde Space
  • Hoover
  • Chesapeake Corporation
  • Scottoiler
  • Macphie
  • United Central Bakeries
  • Fearsome Engine
  • Strathclyde Police
