The Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Mr Humza Yousaf, visited the Centre for Youth & Criminal Justice (CYCJ) and the University of Strathclyde on Tuesday, August 20th. He met with members of the team to discuss our youth justice research (with an emphasis on trauma and bereavement), participation work with young people and secure care. Mr Yousaf shared the government's approach to smart justice, finding community alternatives to custodial sentences and the important role of early intervention in preventing a child from ever having contact with the criminal justice system in the first place. He also met with Professor Douglas Brodie, Dean of HASS and Professor Claire McDiarmid, Head of the School of Law.
