Undergraduate study

French

French is a major international language. It's the first language of more than 100 million people across the world, while more than 60 million people speak French as a second language.

French can be combined with a wide variety of subjects, such as: Law, Business (IBML), History, English and, of course other languages.

Spanish

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. If you can speak Spanish, you can communicate with the 528 million people across the world who also speak Spanish.

You can combine Spanish at Strathclyde with other modern languages or subjects including business, law and marketing. In addition to language skills, you'll learn about Spanish and Latin American literature, history, film and culture, delivered by teaching staff who specialise in these subjects.

Postgraduate research study

You can study an MPhil or MRes over the course of a year or a PhD over three years. Our research degrees are available in French, Italian or Spanish.

Research

Our research in modern languages (French, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin) investigates questions of representations, interpretations and transmissions in film, fiction, journalism, opera, print media, theatre, philosophy and translation.

The University is a centre for the examination in the Spanish Government's official Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE - Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera).
