Basic Network Provision

main content

The University provides the vast majority of users with access to its networking infrastructure at a bandwidth of 100 Mbits per second (Mb/s). Most buildings are interconnected by links running at least 1Gb/s.

The University has invested heavily in its edge network, ensuring that the cabling to staff offices and laboratories is modern and of high quality, and that the network hardware is capable enough to satisfy the demands of the teaching and research community.

There are no annual charges for network provision, but a charge is made for new installations or upgrades.

If you wish to install or upgrade a network connection, you should contact the IT Services helpdesk in the first instance. Please note that it is against the University Networking Infrastructure Connection Policy for users to make additions or alterations to the networking infrastructure.
