Alasdair Graham

I am Alasdair Graham, Glasgow. I currently work as a mechanical project engineer.

I chose to do the MBA as I would like to gain a knowledge of the business industry, network further and develop. I see the MBA as the next stage of my career path. I took the decision to study part-time as I wanted to continue working.

Strathclyde MBA was interesting to me due to the prestige and being triple accredited. The business school’s location and the part time course works well with my current employment.

I enjoy the networking side of the MBA – I have been involved in events such as the Scottish Export and Entrepreneurial Awards, and the Business School’s celebrating of their business school of the year award which took the form of a Business Quiz. These have been fantastic opportunities to meet full time, flexible, part-time year 2 students, alumni and professionals from different organisations.

The biggest impact for teaching is that the lecturers do not simply teach the exam topics, they facilitate the learning and share their knowledge. The fact that the lecturers have held senior and high profile positions previously helps in making the content relatable and industry specific.

My fellow cohort has been a great group to work with, we have organised social events regularly outwith the programme such as wine tasting, meeting for dinner and climbing Ben Lomond. The staff are very helpful and accommodating helping out of teaching hours. The facilities are superb and having a designated career adviser has also been very beneficial.

I would recommend the MBA due to the prestige of the university being triple accredited, top 50 in the world, business school of the year and the university’s past reputation. The MBA is very challenging and enjoyable. You develop as an individual, get further opportunities and meet interesting high profile personnel.
