Massive Open Online Courses

Strathclyde is among top UK and international universities, as well as leading cultural institutions, partnering with education provider FutureLearn to provide high-quality, free courses.

Our ‘Caring for Vulnerable Children’ course recently won the Courseware and Curriculum In-House Award, at the 12th Learning on Screen Awards, held by the British Universities Film and Video Council for the fictional narrative embedded in the six-week course entitled ‘Billy’s Story’. In this course you can develop an understanding of some of the approaches involved in caring for vulnerable children.

Massive, Open, Online Courses (MOOCs)

These courses are designed to fit around the lives of learners, with short activities and clear goals to encourage participants to make progress.

Educators have created videos, articles and quizzes to inspire learners, and will instigate discussions and debates.

The courses are designed to provoke questions and stimulate debate, emphasising learning as a social activity, with knowledge shared and developed between participants.

The aim is to connect learners from all over the globe. The approach is informed by a belief that learning should be an enjoyable, social experience, with plenty of opportunities to discuss what participants have studied, in order to make fresh discoveries and form new ideas.

Courses are delivered one step at a time, and are accessible on mobile, tablet and desktop, so learners can fit learning around their lives, rather than their lives around learning.

Strathclyde's first MOOC, an Introduction to Forensic Science, provided by the Science Faculty's Centre for Forensic Science.

Strathclyde's second MOOC, Understanding Modern Business & Organisations, is provided by the Strathclyde Business School.
