Lifts Out of Order

For non passengers

If you are unable to get a lift on campus to operate, and you are not currently a passenger in the lift, please phone the Helpdesk on 2164 to arrange for a repair. The Helpdesk will call out the lift repair company to attend and deal with the problem. Where you notice that the fault involves a lift being stuck between floors, with doors either fully or partially open, please advise the Helpdesk of this. They will then contact Security who will arrange to cordon off the area immediately.

For passengers caught in a lift

Being trapped in a lift can be a frightening experience. In the unfortunate event that you find yourself in this situation be assured that help is always at hand, whatever the time of day.

Please use the lift call button on the panel located at the side of the door in each lift. The call will automatically go to an emergency phone located at the Estates Helpdesk (out of hours this will divert to Security Control). The Helpdesk staff will request the lift company to attend as a matter of urgency and will also call Security who will attend at the lift and provide reassurance to any trapped passengers, while waiting for the lift engineer to arrive.

Until such times as help arrives, you can reuse the lift call button at any time to speak to the Helpdesk staff. They will be able to provide ongoing reassurance and support to any anxious passengers.
