Cctv Code Of Practice

Data Protection - CCTV System Code of Practice and Operating Guidelines

Estates Services are responsible for the Code of Practice relating to the use of the CCTV System and compliance with data protection legislation.

The Code of Practice has been prepared to provide guidance on the operation of CCTV by exercising control through the setting of standards which must be met if the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 are to be complied with. There is an overview and purpose statement; a description of the Control Room Operation including training of Operators; the staff welfare provision with regard to Health and Safety including working patterns and rest periods; the care of the system and the areas deemed to be a misuse of the system; removal of video tapes; copying of video recordings; method of auditing procedures; liaison with the Police; fault reporting and System Control Records.

The CCTV Code of Practice is available in Adobe Acrobat Format.

Information Services operates within the University’s CCTV Code of Practice, with a networked system for the support of data projection and AV systems in centrally managed teaching rooms. This system uses web cameras to provide information about projector status. Images are not recorded. For security purposes and public safety, recording cctv cameras are in place in the Andersonian Library. IS DP and general compliance contacts are Ralph Weedon and Angela Dunlop in the first instance.
