What is Coaching?

Coaching, as defined by the Association of Coaching, is: "A collaborative solution-focused, results-orientated and systematic process in which the coach facilitates the enhancement of work performance, life experience, self-directed learning and personal growth of the coachee."

Coaching is not

It is important to understand what coaching is not.  It is not counselling or therapy or to solve your problems/any issues.  Nor is coaching mentoring, it differs as the mentoring relationship is based on the experience of the mentor which the mentee wants to tap into and often advice is given.  The University has a mentoring scheme - Mentoring @ Strathclyde, if mentoring would be more helpful.

Leader as Coach
