Welcome to the University of Strathclyde – home of world-leading research in a global university, your position as research staff plays an important part in the success of the University, so it is vital that in the first few weeks and months of your new role in the University you are welcomed and supported.

Your Induction Plan

Before you begin:

You will have been sent to your home an Induction Pack from Human Resources upon written acceptance of your appointment. This will include information about:-car parking facilities, computer facilities, identification cards, library facilities, payroll contact numbers, security, sports facilities, university webpage and organisation chart. You can also access the Getting Started Leaflet on our webpages. You will also find information in your pack regarding data protection, freedom of information and the University strategic priorities.

Your first day:

Your Head of Departments (HOD) or Head of School are notified by HR upon acceptance of your post to have the Induction documents available ready for your first day in post. Your Line Manager will ensure that someone within the department/school will be nominated to take responsibility of the co-ordination of your induction programme, either the nominated person or your line manager will meet with you on your arrival and introduce you to work colleagues and the area where you will work (this person may also be your assigned buddy/mentor). Your line manager or nominated buddy/mentor will go through the induction checklist and check that you have all the induction material available, this includes your induction pack, getting started leaflet, induction checklist and research staff induction guidelines.

Research Staff Specific Induction Seminar:

If you want to hear about development and careers support available to you, researchers experiences, meet other new researchers, then come along to our next induction seminar. This is a 3 hour seminar and will run 3 times per year (September, January and May) after the New Staff Induction Seminar. This seminar will include an opportunity to network with other research staff and a buffet lunch is provided. The presentations will cover:

  • Being a member of Research Staff at Strathclyde
  • Fellowship and Grant Applications (Research Funding, Making successful applications, International funding opportunities)
  • Researcher Development and Looking forward
  • Networking with Research staff and Lunch
