Developing Your Career

"There is no such thing as a career path. It's crazy paving and you have to lay it yourself" (Skills for Graduates in the 21st Century)

The University of Strathclyde is committed to its research staff. You can get support for your career development from the University, your department (including your Principal Investigator and other senior colleagues), and support services like Research and Knowledge Exchange Services (RKES), the Centre for Academic Practice and Learning Enhancement (CAPLE), the Careers Service, and Human Resources.

This website is for early career research staff.* It is designed to support your career development, with specific sections on identifying your skills, the career decision-making process, career management, and finding and applying for jobs. It will give you round the clock access to information, advice and useful resources to help you plan your future. For further opportunities and support for early career research staff in the University of Strathclyde, including more information on the Researcher Development Programme, visit the RKES portal (DS log-in required).

* Early career research staff are defined as those members of staff who have up to and including 4 years postdoctoral experience as a member of staff in a UK university. Although this website has been specifically designed for early career research staff, much of its content is still relevant for those with more than 4 years of postdoctoral research experience.
