  • Instron Electro-Thermal Mechanical Tester

    Instron Electro-Thermal Mechanical Tester (ETMT)

    The Electrothermal Mechanical Testing System (ETMT) was developed in conjunction with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) for testing metals and other conductive materials. Using miniature test pieces, the system is capable of achieving high fatigue loading rates and very rapid rates of heating and cooling. It is designed for full reverse stress loading and includes a direct resistance heating system.

    This is a materials testing machine capable of conducting experiments in the range of “medium” strain rates up to a maximum of 200/s at high temperatures up to 1,050°C. This machine is ideal for the detailed simulation of the thermo-mechanical conditions taking place during hot forging in screw-presses and hammers. This helps in the study and prediction of the mechanical properties of various alloys under forging conditions.
