Strathclyde Centre for Environmental Law & GovernancePolicy Briefs

BENELEX policy briefs present in a succinct and accessible way the main project findings on whether and how benefit-sharing can (and crucially when it cannot) contribute to fair and equitable partnerships in the context of natural resource governance.

In 2017, BENELEX produced two policy briefs on benefit-sharing on the law of the sea (in English and French) in partnership with the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), which were shared at the Intergovernmental Conference on a legally binding instrument on marine biodiversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction at the United Nations headquarters.

In addition, the Benelex team is producing other three policy briefs on:

  • indigenous peoples’ rights to natural resources;
  • farmers’ rights; and
  • community protocols.

They will be available in English, French and Spanish in spring 2019.
