RP1: Global Law for Integrated Ocean Management
Global, with focus on Africa, South Pacific and the Caribbean
Led by Co-Directors Morgera/Strathclyde & Vrancken/Mandela
Research Programme 1 aims to connect norms, science and policy by researching the full potential of law to tackle systemic issues of policy coherence, access to justice, transparency and inclusive decision-making. It’s innovation lies in critically analysing different types of norms at different scales: international, comparative and national law, as well as the norms of indigenous peoples, international organisations, civil society, donors, and the private sector. It is also the first attempt to connect and challenge legal sectors that are still studied in isolation: the law of the sea, environmental law, human rights, economic law, development cooperation and dispute resolution.
