Journalism, media & communicationMedia, health, wellbeing & trauma

Research team

An interest in the relationship of the media to health and wellbeing cuts across our research on body image and eating disorders (Eckler), journalism ethics (particularly in relation to reporting of mental health, suicide and vulnerable people), media reporting of death and trauma (Duncan), digital health (apps and technologies), privacy and datafication of the Self (Miyake), reproductive politics (Jones), masculinities and mental health (Alexander), and gender violence (Boyle, Eckler).

Our collaborations with external partners include Duncan’s work with the National Union of Journalists to produce Media Guidelines on Mental Health and Suicide and Eckler’s ongoing work with the Mental Health Foundation and Beat, the eating disorder charity.
