Industry engagement

Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is one of the UK's leading departments in knowledge-exchange. We have a long history of working with industry partners in a number of areas. Some notable industrial partnerships include our hosting of the Weir Advanced Research Centre (WARC) and the BRE centre of excellence in energy utilisation.

What we offer

We offer a range of services that can help your business to develop new capabilities, bring ideas from concept to production and exploit emerging opportunities. These services include:

Our expertise

Aerospace: from hypersonic flows to the development of advanced space concepts, our aerospace groups have the expertise and facilities to help bring your ideas to reality.

Energy: with state-of-the-art knowledge and computational tools, we can help in a wide-range of areas, including: the design of materials for conventional and nuclear power systems; high pressure transportation and storage of oil and gas; deployment of renewable energy devices and energy demand reduction.

Mechanics and materials: drawing on our knowledge base in engineering science, we can help with everything from new medical devices to new materials for energy conversion.

Computational modelling: we host the largest and fastest supercomputer for computational engineering in any Scottish university, running a range of world-leading software to assist in technology problems, from assessing the performance of high-temperature materials, to the simulation of nano-scale flows.
