Rachel Doyle - Head of SHaW

 

As the Head of SHaW, my role is to ensure that the University meets the necessary legislative obligations and drives the continuous improvement of health & safety management at Strathclyde.

I have also developed a University wide Safety, Health & Wellbeing strategy to ensure that Strathclyde is a leader in the field of health & safety.

Prior to joining Strathclyde, I worked for the Health & Safety Executive as an H.M Inspector as well as various companies in senior health & safety management roles.

I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety and I am also a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH).

Pamela Loughlin - Risk & Resilience Manager

 

As well as acting as the line manager for the team of Safety Advisers, my key role is to act as the lead for the OHS audit programme to monitor the University's health & safety management performance, which ensures compliance with our statutory duties.

Where opportunities for improvement are identified, I support the relevant personnel with implementing the required changes.

Initially starting work in Risk Management, I have worked in various health & safety roles in the public sector for over 20 years, advising on a wide range of safety matters.

I am also a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH).

Paul Graham - Health and Safety Manager

 

As the University Health and Safety Manager, I provide oversight to key areas of the safety management process, namely the safety training and OHS audit programmes, incident reporting and investigation, the SACSOH committee meetings and fire safety.

I also liaise with Estates Services to monitor their operations and construction programmes.

I have previously worked in safety roles within both construction and petrochemical industries. I was also privileged to work on the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, managing and developing the event's construction safety arrangements.

I am also a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH).

Michael Moran - Health, Safety and Training Adviser

 

As the University Health, Safety and Training Adviser, my role is to provide health and safety advice to all departments on a variety of topics.

I will also be responsible for overseeing the SHaW training and audit programs, including the Principles and Practices of Risk Assessments course.

I have previously worked in various health and safety roles in a variety of fields including biotechnology, local authorities and in consultancy before joining the University in 2019.

I am also a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH).


Wes Boulstridge - Fire Safety Adviser

 

As the University's Fire Safety Adviser, my role is to carry out fire risk assessments, deliver fire safety training and to provide advice and guidance in all fire safety related matters.

This is done to ensure that the management of fire safety throughout the University complies with current legislation and sector specific guidance.

I previously worked in the Royal Air Force as a firefighter and the Fire & Rescue Service as a fire safety enforcement officer before joining the University in 2014.


Richard Wright - Radiation Protection Officer

 

As the University's Radiation Protection Officer, my role is to ensure that work with all forms of radiation within the University is carried out as safely as possible, and in accordance with all relevant legislation to protect both people and the environment.

This involves liaising with the various departments who are using radiations, the University's RPA and government organisations.

I previously worked for the Royal Navy as a member of the various health physics teams, before joining the University in 2015.


Sarah Carroll - Specialist Safety Manager / Biological Safety Adviser

 

As the University's Biological Safety Adviser, I am responsible for the management of health & safety matters related to biological risks within the University to ensure legal compliance.

This includes providing advice to the University's biological community on both strategic planning for biological safety and daily operational issues, to promote a positive health & safety culture.

I am also the specialist health and safety manager, overseeing the work done the Radiation Protection Officer and the Chemical Safety Adviser.

I completed my Ph.D at the University of Glasgow in 2002 after which I worked in the field of cardiac research, before joining the University in 2016.


Katrina Rae - Chemical Safety Adviser

 

As the University’s Chemical Safety Adviser, my role is to provide support and advice on chemical health and safety matters within the University community.

This includes maintaining up to date guidance, managing chemical safety to ensure legal compliance within the organisation and delivering training.

I previously worked within the University in the Cancer Research UK Formulation Unit before joining SHaW in 2019.      


Vivien Hamilton - Departmental Administrator

 

As the Departmental Administrator, my role involves supporting the Head of Department, Health & Safety Manager and the Core Safety Team. I am the SACSOH Committee Manager and have ownership of the Safety Inbox and the SHaW Incident Reporting & Investigation Programme.  

Before joining the University, I worked as a team manager within Learning Disavilities and Mental Health Social Work within the Health and Social Care Partnership, before joining the University in 2019.
