Information for Mature Students

Advice and Guidance
The University is keen to promote opportunities for mature students. We recognise that many mature students have a lot to consider before deciding to return to university and people can also find it challenging to adjust to university life. We have a dedicated Mature Student Adviser, Deborah Duncan, who is available to provide you with the information you need on returning to university.

Please visit our dedicated Mature Students' Information page for further information, including the Mature Students' Guide and the Mature Student Adviser's contact details.

Pre-entry events
We have two main annual events for mature students who are interested in joining the University.  Which one you register to attend depends upon which part of the application process you are at!  Insight into University happens in November and is for mature students who either have already applied to the University to start with us the following September, or who are thinking of applying to join us the following September.  Finding Your Way happens in August and is for mature students who have accepted an offer to start studying at Strathclyde the following month!

Finding Your Way
This is a friendly and informal event, held each August, that has been designed to help mature students and direct entrants to later years gather the information they need and consider some of the practicalities prior to starting their studies. The event is suitable of incoming undergraduate students, and to attend the event you must already be holding an offer of a place from Strathclyde.

The event will feature presentations from staff from our Study Skills Team, the Library, the Virtual Learning Environment team. You will also hear from the University of Strathclyde Students' Assocation and some of our current Strathclyde students.

In 2017 the event will take place on Saturday the 19th of August from 10.00am until approximately 12.15pm.

Registration for Finding Your Way 2017 is now closed.

If you have any queries about the event, please contact

Insight into University
Each year, around November, we run an event for mature students who may be thinking of applying to university in the following year. The programme offers an opportunity to sample both the academic and social life at Strathclyde. In addition to meeting current students, participants attend course information sessions and find out about student services. They are also given the option to take part in an elective session which allows students to attend first year lectures and make contact with our support services.

When the date for Insight into University 2017 has been set, we will publish it here along with details of how to register. For more information, please e-mail Debbie Duncan or telephone her on 0141 548 4248.
