Personal statement

My work is concerned with developing new ways of knowing, making and forming the material world, informed by creative practice, design and anthropology. I work on this in collaboration with fellow learners and practitioners in education and research institutes, creative studios, industry, public institutes and government.

I have a long-standing working relationship with the Department of Anthropology, University of Aberdeen, working on cross/inter disciplinary international research projects, with my current role as Research Consultant on the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant for Social Sciences and Humanities 'Knowing From the Inside: Anthropology, Art, Architecture & Design'.

I also work with Bauhaus Dessau, the Danish Design Anthropology Research Network (University of Southern Denmark, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Aarhus University) and PC University of Chile.

I have taught at The Glasgow School of Art and guest lectured at the Edinburgh College of Art, University of Aberdeen and the University of Southern Denmark. My publications are featured in international peer-review journals - Design Issues (MIT), Cultural Anthropology - and in the recent edited volume 'Designing Anthropological Futures' (Bloomsbury). I have worked for leading creative consultancies - 4c Design (Glasgow) and Buro Happold (London) - and conducted public engagement through exhibition curation and design and government engagement through workshops.

I am currently developing new pedagogies for creative learning and a series of research publications in design anthropology.
