Research interests

My research, writing and public engagement is mainly concerned with children growing up in difficult circumstances, and particularly those in the care of public services. My current interests include working with local authorities to improve the educational experience of their 'looked after children', improving access to post-school education for looked after young people and care leavers, mentoring programmes for young people in education, and the implications for looked after young people of the reduction in voting age in Scotland to 16. I am co-author of Educating Children and Young People in Care (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2015).
