Personal statement
Dave Mackay is a Professor of Strategy and Digital Transformation in the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship. He has taught, consulted and researched managerial practice and organisational processes - particularly in strategy, innovation and technology - for the last 17 years. In 2022, he has delivered strategy, digital transformation, sustainability practice and international business modules on the Strathclyde MBA home and abroad. From 2019 to 2022, Dave was the MBA Academic Director in SBS, joining from the Stirling Management School where he served as Associate Dean Internationalisation from 2017 to 2019. In addition to his academic career, Dave has experience as an owner/director of a successful consultancy start-up, and held production engineering and management roles in Procter and Gamble. In 2010, Dave completed a PhD in Dynamic Managerial Capabilities based on research exploring managerial practices of strategic change. He has published in a range of international journals including Organizational Research Methods, IJMR, IJOPM, Management Learning, Business History, TFSC and ICC. He is co-author of the textbook “Strategy: Theory, Practice and Implementation” published by OUP, and the forthcoming Cambridge Element “Strategy-In-Practices” with Robert Chia. Dave is a fellow of the Higher Academy of Education and a previous winner of the ‘Best Overall Lecturer’ at the Strathclyde teaching awards. As an engaged scholar, Dave has also facilitated education and consultancy assignments with a range of corporate clients, SMEs, public sector and charitable organisations in locations including the UK, USA, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan and the UAE. In 2018, he designed and facilitated two phases of Oman 2040, working with stakeholders from across the country in setting national objectives for the Sultanate.
