Research interests

  • Lysolipid (sphingosine 1-phosphate, lysophoshatidic acid) receptor signalling in health and disease with specific focus on cancer and cardiovascular/inflammatory disease
  • Cross talk regulation between lysolipid receptors and growth factor receptors/oncogenes (e.g. PDGFR, HER2, EGFR and TRK A)
  • Translational biology of lysolipids (e.g. drug discovery and biomarker identification)
  • Cyclic AMP/cyclic GMP signalling

The overall aim of research is to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which lysolipid receptors regulate cell biology; to determine how these mechanisms become altered in diseases and to evaluate the potential of receptors and enzymes involved in lysolipid signalling as drugable targets. Techniques in the laboratory range from in vitro cell based assays, imaging, mass spectroscopic analysis and proteomics to in vivo analysis. Recent research in this laboratory has received support from Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation, Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and industry.
