The Professor David C. Sherrington FRS Sports Award
The Professor David C. Sherrington FRS Sports Award was established to commemorate Professor David C. Sherrington FRS (5 Mar 1945 – 4 Oct 2014), a former Professor of Polymer Chemistry in Pure and Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde and avid sports enthusiast.
Professor David C. Sherrington was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Society (FRS) on the 17 May 2007.
Described by The Guardian newspaper as, “the equivalent of a lifetime achievement Oscar”, Fellowship of the Society is a hugely prestigious honour awarded to individuals who, “have made a substantial contribution to the improvement of natural knowledge”.
Whilst preference will be given to under- or post- graduate students studying for a degree in Pure and Applied Chemistry, the Award is open to any student-athlete studying for a degree in the Faculty of Science competing in any sport.
The Award is a one-off award of £250 per student, with generally one award per academic year.
