Centre for Lifelong Learning

Public Programmes Online Go Live!

The Centre temporarily suspended all face-to-face classes as a result of Covid-19, but within a few days of realising that we wouldn’t be opening our doors to students for quite some time, the process to develop a pilot scheme of online classes commenced.

The CLL team worked incredibly hard in turning around an offering of online classes which opened for bookings on the 15th April. Subjects included Italian, German, Spanish, ‘Bitesize Shakespeare’ and IPad Art...to name a few!

Classes are being delivered via the online tool ‘Zoom’, which is free to download and straight forward to use. Tutors and students are able to meet ‘virtually’ with their class using video and audio and we have kept class sizes to a maximum of 15 to encourage discussion and interaction.

We received an overwhelming response and classes filled up quickly and where possible, additional classes were added to cater for individuals who placed themselves on waiting lists. We currently have 30 classes and over 300 students taking an online class with the Centre during the next few weeks.

We are delighted that there seems to be such an appetite for online classes from CLL and our attention will now turn to future online provision and how we can increase capacity. Watch this space!
