Scottish Older People's Assembly

The Scottish Older People’s Assembly (SOPA) is a non-political democratic body comprising mainly older adult volunteers who want to influence policymaking which will improve later life in Scotland.

Learning in Later Life Students' Association President John Parkhill is our Centre’s representative on the SOPA Committee.

Its annual Assembly in the Scottish Parliament is a platform for older adults to speak directly to elected politicians. You have an opportunity to apply to attend this event.

Throughout the year SOPA engages with older people’s groups and various policy groups to raise awareness and debate the important issues concerning the quality of later life, including the introduction of tiered pensions, and health and social care integration.
