Self-funded PhD and MPhil applicants are welcome to apply for this award.
This award cannot be combined with another Strathclyde University award.
Applicants should have an excellent academic record – preferably, a First Class undergraduate degree (students with an Upper Second Class degree, or equivalent, may apply), and/or a master’s degree with Distinction / Merit or overseas equivalent.
Applicants should have strong research potential (evidenced by their research proposal and academic reference letters submitted with the online application).
The Dean’s Global Research Award will help to cover the difference between the tuition fee for a UK postgraduate student and that chargeable to an international, self-funded postgraduate research student. The award will apply for each year of study up to 3 years.
Value: £6,500 per year (3 years in total; start date, 1st October 2021.)
Number of Scholarships: 12 for 2021/22.

How to apply
International self-funded PhD and MPhil students should apply for admission via our Pegasus online portal and enter “Dean’s Global Research Award” in the funding section of the application form. If they are made an offer of admission, and have accepted the offer, they may apply for the Dean’s Global Research Award.
There are two steps to complete:
(1) Supervisor’s supporting statement
The candidate should make contact by email with the member of Strathclyde University staff who is their potential primary supervisor and request a supporting statement which recommends them for this award.
(2) Candidate’s supporting statement
Candidates should also submit their own, brief statement (200-300 words) explaining why they wish to apply for the award, and their suitability, with reference to the above criteria.
Candidates are required to submit both the supporting statements to firstname.lastname@example.org by the closing date of 5th April 2021.
