Royal College Wind Energy Scholarships

Deadline:31 August 2018 Opens:22 April 2018

Renewable energy technologies are vital to the development and sustainable growth of the Scottish economy.  The Government remains committed to an overall renewable energy target of 30% by 2020, and to achieve this has established individual targets for renewable electricity, heat and transport.  It is widely recognised that the Wind industry will play a key role in delivering the target for renewable electricity, but that the growing demand for highly skilled engineers in this industry, needs to be met in order to support this.

To address this demand, through support from the Scottish Funding Council (SFC), the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering has funded places available for its specialist postgraduate degree, MSc in Wind Energy Systems. The funded places are open to well qualified SCOTTISH and EU STUDENTS only.

On the MSc course students will develop and enhance their technical expertise of wind energy and deepen their understanding of the engineering, political and economic contexts of wind power. It will provide them with an advanced level of knowledge to address the current and future challenges of the exciting and dynamic wind energy sector.

Students will be taught by academics internationally-renowned in the wind energy sector, have the opportunity to undertake real-world industry-linked projects (eg ScottishPower, SmarterGrids Solutions, SSE) and have unique access to world-leading teaching and research facilities (e.g GIS test rigs, distribution network & protection lab with 100kVA microgrid, and Europe’s only centre dedicated to the development and demonstration of “smart-grid” technologies, Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC)
