John Blackburn Main Scholarship

Through the generosity of the family of Mr John Blackburn Main, the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) has set up a fund to support students from the Department to gain work experience overseas, preferably in a shipyard or related environment in the Far East.
  • Number of scholarships Up to four are made available each year.
  • Value £3,000
  • Opens 1 January 2017

  • Help with Study abroad costs, Living costs, Travel costs
  • Duration single payment

Eligibility

Current Undergraduate students in third or fourth year who are spending between one month and three months in a different country to help with their project work. There is a preference for students to go to shipyards in the Far East, although it is not necessary.  At the end of the placement, each scholarship holder is required to submit a technical report.

Awards are also available for PhD students in their second year of study.

Number of Scholarships

Up to four are made available each year.
